About me

Eloise is an Australian artist based in Sydney. Born in China 1995, she comes from a family of artists. Her father, Lu Zhiqiang, is a renowned artist in China with notable achievements in Chinese painting. Her mother, Eunice Chen, specializes in abstract expressionism, shaping a distinctive style of her own. Influenced by her family, Eloise developed an early passion for art and creative pursuits from a young age.

“Although my parents are both artists, they did not instruct me in the technical aspects of painting. Instead, they encouraged me to explore freely and learn through copying. When I was little, I copied many masterpieces under their guidance. They hope that my art is unbound by technique and a genuine and childlike essence can be preserved in my works.”

This has led to her painting style being diverse – influenced by Chinese traditional painting, abstract art and Expressionism, she seeks to explore pure art through colour, composition and texture. Eloise paints a wide range of subjects, including still life, landscapes and abstract artworks. And she is continually developing new techniques and experimenting with different mediums.

For Eloise, Art is to serve as an intrinsic, emotional expression rather than a mere replication of the external world. Through her paintings, Eloise wish to share with viewers her feelings, experiences and emotions in every moment of her life.

“I grew up in a city undergoing modernization, where the demands of urban development led to the demolition of many old buildings. In their place arose a multitude of monotonous new structures. Nevertheless, the picturesque scenes of the city from days gone by still linger in my memories.”

In her recent series, “Polyphony” and “Somewhere in Time”, she employs an abstract approach to depict urban landscapes, aiming to explore a contemporary dilemma faced by individuals—the contradiction between modernization and nostalgia.
